SWE-SCV worked with the SJSU student section for the 2017 WOW! That's Engineering Program in early March 2017. Dates for next year's event are TBD at this time.
What it is? Program targeted towards high school girls that are interested to learn more about engineering. We are actively looking for volunteers to fulfill our various volunteer opportunities. For registration information, please the links below:
WOW! That’s Engineering! is an award winning SWE-SCV program that gives high school girls (grades 9-12) the opportunity to visit the San Jose State University College of Engineering, participate in round table discussions with professional women engineers, and gain advice from a panel of university students. Women engineers and university students present interactive workshops with unique engineering topics to inspire creativity and educate on challenges in design, construction, and execution.
WOW! That’s Engineering! also includes a parent track that allows parents to hear from women engineers and university professors on helping their daughter succeed at the university. The track includes university information, a parent panel, and other workshops aimed at educating parents on challenges and ways of aiding their daughter in math and science.
"The Society of Women Engineers is an organization that has a positive impact in the fields of engineering, the community, and to individuals who strive for the same goal; to be a successful woman in engineering. I am proud to say that I have been a member of SWE as part of the San Jose State University (SJSU) student section since I began college in 2009 and will continue to participate as I begin my first full-time job with Boeing. I first learned about WOW! That’s Engineering outreach event held at San Jose State University in early 2009 when I was a senior in high school. I participated at the event as an attendee and experienced the workshops, labs, seminars, and panels. I was inspired by the enthusiasm and motivation the college students and professionals had throughout the day. I learned about the diversity of engineering and witnessed how close-knit the SWE community is with both professional and collegiate members. When I started at SJSU in the Fall of 2009, I ventured to find SWE on campus where I soon found my mentors. Every year I volunteer at WOW! That’s Engineering in hopes that the high school girls will find the same enthusiasm for engineering as I did when I attended. I recently graduated from SJSU with the on-going strive to be one of the successful leaders in engineering."

Wow! That's Engineering was held at San Jose State University for the fifth year on March 14, 2015. The event was a great success, attended by approximately 107 students and 44 parents from 30 different high schools in the Bay Area. Nearly one-third of all participants were from low income and minority backgrounds. Activities for students included hands-on workshops by Qualcomm, Fluor, Abott, ASCE SJSU, SOLES SJSU, Amphenol TCS, and Lockheed Martin, as well as an engineering fair, lab tours, student panels and professional round tables. A separate program for parents included informational presentations, workshop demonstrations, parent panels, and professional round tables.
We will be hosting our next event on Friday, November 6, 2015. Please check back soon for more details!
