Executive Council Elections

With FY16 activities coming to a close, it is time to identify and nominate potential candidates for the Santa Clara Valley section for FY17. Terms for open positions are from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017. All nominees must be a voting member of the Society in good standing, and a member of the Santa Clara Valley section.

The nominating committee is charged with the responsibility for selecting at least one qualified candidate for each of the following:

  • President
  • Vice President of Member Services
  • Vice President of Career Guidance
  • Vice President of Community Outreach
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Section Representatives (4 positions)

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications are due by Friday, May 6, 2016. Submissions must contain the following information:

  • Name of nominee
  • Position(s) of interest
  • Contact information (day/evening phone number and email address)
  • SWE Member Number
  • List of previous positions held (if any)
  • A 200-word maximum candidate statement to be published if candidate is placed on the ballot. Generally this includes why the candidate wishes to serve in the position and what s/he hopes to accomplish.
  • A 150-word maximum candidate history (qualifications and previous SWE leadership experience).

Please address all submissions to the Santa Clara Valley Nominating Committee Chair, Lindsay Kammeier. Submit nomination page(s) in MS Word format. Please submit your nominations on time to support the nominating committee deadlines.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

President: shall represent the section before the public and preside at meetings of the section and its executive council. She shall appoint the chairs of all committees, with the approval of the executive council, except the chair of the nominating committee. The President shall approve the appointment of all committee members, except the members of the nominating committee. Responsibilities also include authorizing the disbursement of section funds within the budget approved by the executive council and being an authorized signatory on all section accounts. The President shall coordinate activities and execute the business and policies of the section between meetings, review and approve the year-end section financial report, provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and perform other duties normally associated with the office of president or as may be assigned by the executive council or the governance documents.

Vice President - Membership Services: shall assume the duties of the president if the president is temporarily unable to serve, provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and perform such other duties as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.

Vice President - Career Guidance: shall assume the duties of the president if the president and vice president-member services are temporarily unable to serve, provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and perform such other duties as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.

Vice President - Community Outreach: shall assume the duties of the president if the president, vice president-member services and the vice president-career guidance are temporarily unable to serve, provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and perform such other duties as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.

Secretary: shall maintain the records of the section, provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and perform other duties normally associated with the office of secretary or as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.

Treasurer: shall be responsible for the collection, distribution, and safekeeping of section funds, prepare, maintain, and report as directed on the financial position of the section in relation to the approved budget, and submit a financial report to the Society in accordance with established procedures. The Treasurer is also responsible for providing oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and performing other duties normally associated with the office of treasurer or as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.

Section Representatives: shall perform those duties expected of them as described in the region governance documents and perform other duties normally associated with the office of section representative or as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.
