Executive Council Elections

Members of the SWE-SCV Nominating Committee have completed their evaluation of nominees for the FY18 section elected positions and have selected the following slate of candidates. In making these selections, the committee evaluated information provided by the candidates and feedback received from SWE members and leaders.
The selections are as follows:
President: Divya Sharma

Vice President - Membership Services: Gabriela Bernal, Freny Chennessery

Vice President - Career Guidance: Dr. Erika Rodriguez

Vice President - Community Outreach: Danielle Becerra

Secretary: Freny Chennessery, Jocelyn Tan

Treasurer: Ishita Mandhan

Section Representative*: Sarah Sullivan

*Due to SWE Governance Changes, all sections will be allotted one Section Representative for FY18

Eligibility of all candidates on the FY18 slate has been verified to the bylaws requirements for their respective position.

Article III, Section 4.D of the Santa Clara Valley bylaws allow for the nomination of additional candidates by petition.  Petition candidates must be eligible for the position, give written consent to be placed on the ballot and gather signed petitions or endorsed emails from a minimum of two percent or five of the voting members of the section, whichever is greater, to place the candidate’s name on the ballot.

Petitions for all positions are due by May 16th, 2017. Address any petitions by email to Lesley Telford.

Slated candidates have prepared their candidate biography and statement, which will be available to voting members when the section sends out balloting instructions by mid-May.  Be on the look out for the ballot and cast your vote!

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

President: shall represent the section before the public and preside at meetings of the section and its executive council. She shall appoint the chairs of all committees, with the approval of the executive council, except the chair of the nominating committee. The President shall approve the appointment of all committee members, except the members of the nominating committee. Responsibilities also include authorizing the disbursement of section funds within the budget approved by the executive council and being an authorized signatory on all section accounts. The President shall coordinate activities and execute the business and policies of the section between meetings, review and approve the year-end section financial report, provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and perform other duties normally associated with the office of president or as may be assigned by the executive council or the governance documents.

Vice President - Membership Services: shall assume the duties of the president if the president is temporarily unable to serve, provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and perform such other duties as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.

Vice President - Career Guidance: shall assume the duties of the president if the president and vice president-member services are temporarily unable to serve, provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and perform such other duties as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.

Vice President - Community Outreach: shall assume the duties of the president if the president, vice president-member services and the vice president-career guidance are temporarily unable to serve, provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and perform such other duties as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.

Secretary: shall maintain the records of the section, provide oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and perform other duties normally associated with the office of secretary or as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.

Treasurer: shall be responsible for the collection, distribution, and safekeeping of section funds, prepare, maintain, and report as directed on the financial position of the section in relation to the approved budget, and submit a financial report to the Society in accordance with established procedures. The Treasurer is also responsible for providing oversight and guidance to the committee chairs as assigned, and performing other duties normally associated with the office of treasurer or as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.

Section Representative: shall perform those duties expected of them as described in the region governance documents and perform other duties normally associated with the office of section representative or as may be assigned by the president, the executive council, or the governance documents.
